My story

When I read about Chance, this amazingly resourceful, and determined mother, caught up in the   armed conflict that swept through her community in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), I was very moved and humbled. She had to flee immediately with her newborn baby and eight children. She had not long given birth by Caesarian, and trekked 50 miles to safety. She was left with nothing, and now life in a temporary shelter means hunger and disease are a daily threat.   Tragically, she has now lost her 7th child to a water-borne infection from that trek, when no clean water was available.

I cannot imagine what strength it must take to endure all this.  It makes my Christmas 'worries' seem small indeed. Through Christian Aid, families like Chance’s are receiving emergency cash grants. These grants allow mothers to buy what their children need most – from food and medicine to bedding and shelter.

This Christmas, In the midst of our celebrations and plenty please think about and pray for these mothers fleeing conflict, and support them to buy the essential supplies that could save their child’s life.

How your money helps

This Christmas, support families in the Democratic Republic of Congo who’ve fled violence.

For mothers like Chance, daily life in a displacement camp means finding enough food, medicine and shelter to keep her children alive. But your fundraising can make a life-saving difference. Every pound raised could provide cash grants that:

  • Give families the dignity to buy food, medicine and essentials.
  • Bedding, blankets and shelter to protect children traumatised by conflict.
  • Vital supplies that bring comfort and hope in the darkest of times

Your donations, this Christmas, will bring hope to those who need it most.
