Rose is a grandmother from Kenya, a symbol of strength and determination. After losing her husband, she was diagnosed with HIV, but she continues to work hard to support her grandchildren’s education. Yet, the worsening drought has turned survival into a daily struggle. Her once fertile land is now barren, and without vegetables to eat, her vital medication loses its effectiveness.
Each morning, Rose sets out on a gruelling 10-mile journey, walking six to eight hours to collect water, carrying 40kg jerry cans back to her family. Her feet are worn from years of walking this harsh, dry landscape. Rose, who has barely any carbon footprint, is paying the price for a crisis she didn’t cause. This is the harsh reality of climate injustice.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. We can make a real difference.
£5 could buy a tap at a water point, making water collection easier and ensuring no drop is wasted.
£25 could provide seeds and tools to help families like Rose’s grow the nutritious food they desperately need.
£100 could fund training for a group of women to establish sustainable small businesses and support their families.
