My story

Christian Aid doesn't do 'charity', what it does is to support people to lift themselves, their families and the communities out of poverty.

For example, in Burundi we're helping to build reliable and diverse incomes. The business training Aline (who features in the years Christian Aid Week) received together with a small start up loan enable her to buy a bicycle and she set up as a grocery wholesaler. Today, Aline can afford food, clothes, and essential healthcare for her family.

Not only that but now she works with others to run a savings and loan facility that enables others to get their own businesses off the ground too.

Something as simple as a bicycle makes a huge difference. It's literally the difference between life and death and by supporting me, you make it possible for Christian Aid to do more of this brilliant work and enable people like Aline to take a step toward a better future.

How your money helps

Poverty pushed Aline to the brink. She was abused, homeless and hungry. But Aline pushed back harder. With Christian Aid funded small business training, she achieved what had seemed impossible, a vital income for her and her children.

Fundraising this Christian Aid Week will ensure more people in Burundi get the skills and knowledge they need to push back against the inhumanity of poverty.
