Life in Rutherglen during a cost of living crisis is not easy, but in Burundi, East Africa, malnourishment and poverty affect a shocking 70%+ of the population, putting them at the edge of survival.
Coming back from the edge isn't easy when food can be scarce, disease widespread, and jobs hard to come by. If you have a home, the chances are there's no electricity or running water, and it may not even survive the next storm.
Aline's very early marriage ended in abuse and violence. Separated from her six children, she was forced to sleep on the streets of Burundi. But Aline found the strength and determination to push back against the injustices she was facing. She found a lifeline through Christian Aid-funded small business training, and set up as a grocery wholesaler. This allowed Aline to achieve what had seemed impossible - a reliable income for her and her children.
You can help more people in Burundi to get the skills and knowledge they need to fulfil their hopes and ambitions.
Each donation to this year's Christian Aid Week will help someone to push back against poverty. Please give what you can.
