We are a team of 6 walkers Joanne, Bob, Allan, Carolanne, Steve and Gary taking on the challenge of 70K in May by walking along the Antrim hills way for a combined total of well over the 70Kms . Why? To help people push back against poverty. Did you know, malnourishment and poverty affect more than 70% of people in Burundi?
Christian Aid are working to empower families in Burundi to build reliable and diverse incomes. Take Aline, for example. She found a lifeline in Christian Aid after she felt the full force of extreme poverty, when an early marriage ended in abuse and violence. We helped her with small business training and she set up as a grocery wholesaler. Today, Aline can afford food, clothes, and essential healthcare for her family.
There’s more people Christian Aid could reach – and that’s why I’m fundraising and taking part in 70K in May.
The money raised can help ensure more people get the skills and knowledge they need to fulfil their hopes and ambitions. £10/€12 could provide one person with the training that supports their family to set up a small business, such as selling home-grown vegetables.
Together we can make a lasting difference. Thank you for your support!

The 6 team members all got to Ballyboley forest carpark for a 9am start in beautiful weather. We started off with a short time of prayer and the birds joined in with maxium volume from thier songs. As we left the forest and joined the Glenhead track the views were magnificant with the top of Slemish clearly seen 12 miles away. We did met a lot of interesting people along the way and two groups doing Duke of Edingburgh awards. Everybody was in really good form. The last three miles were off road and the track had completely disappeared, just the occasional marker post. That was tough going. We all thought the last 3 miles used as much energy as the first 9 miles. Still Slemish mountain and the views down to coast were great. We met Rev Julian Hamilton at the top of the mountian and gave thanks for God's creation that surrounded us and then went down to the car park where we were joined by Rev Colin McClure and 12 others and we had a short service for Christian Aid and it Partners and the ongoing work . The Singing was just great. After some sweaty hugs we parted company. Great day and a great way to end the Walk. God Bless All Bob
Congratulations! This activity has reached its target!
On Saturday 3 team members, Joanne McCully, Allan McCullough and myself tried walking the Antrim way between Slemish mountain and Shillanavogy woods. We discovered that all the Antrim way markers had fallen over or been knocked over by Animals. Anyway without them we headed well off course walking the southern slopes of Carrigan hill which we should not have been on. Allan and I are going to try walking from Shillanavogy woods to Slemish on Wednesday evening . This should be much easier because you can see Slemish clearly and at least you know where you are heading.
Congratulations! This activity has reached 75% of its target!
Allan McCullough and myself were out for a walk at the weekend along the Antrim Way, to SkerryWhirry and back pass Killyleagh reservoir. The tracks are all in good condition, which is great unfortunately we could not get up Skerrywhirry mountain, due to the ground conditions. Another day perhaps. It was a lovely day for a walk with the Mourne mountains being clearly seen to the south and the Sperrins to the northwest.
Congratulations! This activity has reached 50% of its target!
Hi All,
the team has been formed for our walk along the Antrim way, but we can always accommodate more walkers and fund raisers. On the evening of the 17th April we will be going on a walk from Ballyboley Car Park to the top of Skerrywhirry Hill and back. It is about 7 miles and we will set off at 6pm. If anyone would like to join us. Let me know.
Best wishes
Bob Loade
