End of walk report: This Year I decided to walk the ANGLESEY (Ynys Mon) Coast Path: 140 miles typically walked in 12 days. I wondered if I could get round it in a week and decided to take on the challenge in September.
I worked out a detailed plan to use our campervan and public transport...since the Coast Path was well served by local buses. This worked well as each day I drove the van to the end of the walk and got the bus to the start. The weather was varied, but I was treated to stunning panoramas, spectacular sunrises and breathtaking seascapes.
I was able to keep supporters up to date by reporting on facebook as I journeyed, and people responded by pushing the total over £2000 as I finished the hike .. and now it’s over £3000 including Gift Aid!! I'm delighted and humbled. thankyou soooo much!
As I have shared with many folk, this challenge; averaging 20 miles each walking day (day 4 was day off) … was the hardest of all I’ve taken on so far, and I am so grateful for your prayers and support.
On my last day, two miles from the end of what turned out to be 140 miles, a group of enthusiastic Christian Aid supporters gathered at the home of a lady who lived right on the Coast Path. This was (literally!) icing on the cake as they called me in to celebrate with me, with coffee and cake. They invited me to speak to them about my journey and then gave me.. to my surprise … over £140 in cash, raised at this event, for my fundraiser. Some things in life you never forget. This was one of them for me.
A big thankyou to all who have given, even small amounts. A little money goes a long way in developing countries, and Christian Aid use all you give to great effect.
Original story before the walk: It’s time to wax the boots for another challenging fundraiser for Christian Aid.
This time I intend to walk... in September… the ANGLESEY (Ynys Mon) Coast Path: 140 miles; typically walked in 12 days. I wonder if I can crack it in a week? On this timescale I see that one of the days will be 27 miles!
As always I’ll be working up to a good level of fitness, spurred on by your donations. So, a big thankyou to you in anticipation of your generous support which is much needed. Christian Aid work with some of the world's most vulnerable communities in 29 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Congratulations! This activity has reached its target of £2,000.00
My challenge walk was completed on Friday when at the end of the last 20 miles I met with a group of wonderful Welsh Christian Aid enthusiasts near Menai Bridge who, at the gathering, collected £140 for my fundraiser. My pedometer read 147 miles achieved in 7 days of walking.
The hike was undoubtedly the most difficult physical challenge of my life (most people look back to their 20s or 30s to remember such things … but I will look back to my early 70s !).
Now to get to my £2000 target...
Completed the walk with tea and cakes with the local Christian Aid group in Anglesey which was an absolute delight.
This walk has been the most exhilarating and exhausting of them all so far.
Thanks to all you generous people.
Congratulations! This activity has reached 75% of its target of £2,000.00
What a beautiful island this is. Breathtaking landscapes and panoramas!!
70 miles achieved over 3 days. That's over half way.
The first two days were demanding enough: 22 miles and 20 miles ... but then came day three! Holyhead's Holy Island looks like it's part of the main island of Anglesey on a road map, but it is separate. A full circuit of this island is 28 miles, and it seemed to make sense to me to leave the campervan by the bridge and tackle the whole island in one day. This I did, setting off at 6am in the dark, torch in hand. By 9amthe weather, which had been dry and windy, began to deteriorate. Light rain at first ( but horizontal in the wind) came in several bouts with dry in between. But as I approached Holyhead Mountain the wind and rain became worse. The Wales Coast Path ascends to the very top and there are many criss-cross paths. Tricky enough but by now i was in a persistent squall. The coat kept it out but not below. Coming down the mountain I had wet feet in my boots with still 8 miles to go! Back to the van to dry out after close on 13 hours. My pedometer read almost 60,000 steps 28 miles at 3mph (speed when actually walking). That was some day! I'm writing this on Day4 which I'm glad to say I fixed as a rest day.
Four more days to go as planned in order to achieve the challenge in 7 actual walking days.
Please encourage folk to give. It really does seem to give me a boost! Thankyou all.
Congratulations! This activity has reached 50% of its target of £2,000.00
Thanks to all you generous people we are halfway with the fundraiser a week before I set off !
I will be autonymous on this adventure: Sleeping in campervan and using public transport to get me to the start of each day's walk. Not sure I can pronounce the Welsh names... for example I will be boarding a bus to Rhostrehwfa !
Radio Humberside interview is here: At 1:44:00 (after Lewis Capaldi sings SURVIVE!!) https://www.bbc.co.uk/p…
Phase two of fundraising launched via Winterton Residents' facebook page. Welcome all you generous people!
