My story

Everyone is equal in the eyes of God.

Christian Aid is a global movement of people, churches and local organisations.

For 80 years, this truth has inspired Christian Aid to stand together in solidarity with the most marginalised global neighbours, of all faiths and none.

Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive.

Christian Aid seek to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes. Together with people living in poverty, we amplify our voices to speak truth to power and create lasting change.

Fountainhall Church are delighted to support Christian Aid through a variety of activities in 2026 including Christian Aid Week.

Christian Aid Week 2026: 7 days to make a difference

Where hardship means hungers.....urban farmers can grow hope.

In the crowded and bustling settlements of Nairobi, most parents wake every single day knowing that they must go and earn money, otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. It’s a precarious and frightening daily struggle that no family should have to face.

‘When I wake up, I have a lot of worries. Sometimes I don't have food,’ says Fridah Moraa, a recently widowed grandmother determined to support her family on what little she earns.

‘Now I'm responsible for everything.’ With school costs, rent and water to cover, providing food for every meal is a relentless problem that never goes away.

But with tools, seeds and specialist training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, Fridah’s now making the most of a small space in the city to grow a steady supply of fresh vegetables that she can cook for her family or sell on her market stall.

With her unstoppable resolve, deep faith in God and a little help from our partner, Fridah’s overcoming poverty to feed the youngest members of her family and protect them from the threat of malnutrition. ‘Urban farming has changed my life.’

Christian Aid work with some of the world's most vulnerable communities.  Did you know...

"Work in Africa includes strengthening peace-building in South Sudan, promoting resilient farming in Kenya and challenging inequality in Sierra Leone. We are also working with women to increase their access to green and sustainable energy in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Malawi.

In Asia, our programmes include promoting women's rights in Afghanistan, justice and peacebuilding in Myanmar and ensuring people can access the services they need in Bangladesh.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, we help promote gender justice in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Guatemala, peace-building in Colombia, and and support marginalised communities to adapt their livelihoods to climate change in Honduras, Nicaragua and Haiti.

Our work in the Middle East includes defending people’s rights in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, protecting women at risk of violence in Iraq and providing humanitarian assistance to refugees in Lebanon."

Together, we must support families like Fridah’s to escape the cruel grip of urban poverty.

Because when we give, act and pray this Christian Aid Week, we can make a real difference.

Thank you,

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
