My story

In the crowded settlements of Nairobi, Kenya, families face hunger every day.

Fridah Moraa lives with her children and grandson in Dagoretti, on the outskirts of Nairobi.  Homes made of steel sheets and concrete blocks are packed closely together. Fridah wakes each day knowing she must earn money, otherwise her children won’t eat that evening.

With support from Christian Aid’s partner, Beacon of Hope, Fridah is learning how to grow nutritious food in small city spaces. Using simple tools and training, she’s finding ways to plan ahead and build greater security for her family. With the vegetables she grows, Fridah can feed her family, and sell the surplus to generate income.

With your support, people like Fridah, can learn how to farm food wherever they live.

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
