The climate crisis is pushing families in Guatemala to the brink.
In the lush hills of Guatemala, farmers like Amelia once relied on the land to feed their children. But the climate crisis is changing everything. Rainfall is unpredictable, soil is drying up, and once-thriving crops are withering away.
“I worry about what my children will eat.”
— Amelia, a mother of two
Amelia lives in a rural community in Guatemala, where farming is not just a job — it’s survival. She relies on her land to feed her eight-year-old son, Lázaro, and four-year-old daughter, Yakelin. But as extreme weather devastates her crops, Amelia faces the impossible: how to keep her family nourished when the food she grows is failing.
Guatemala is one of the countries most affected by climate change. Despite contributing the least to global emissions, communities here are being hit hardest — with droughts, floods and food shortages now part of daily life.
But with your support, hope grows.
Christian Aid, working with local partner Congcoop, is helping farmers like Amelia adapt to the changing climate. With specialist training, she’s learning how to plant resilient crops, conserve water, and make her own organic fertiliser — giving her family a fighting chance.
This Christian Aid Week, your donation can help more families in Guatemala face the climate crisis with strength and dignity.
Will you help Amelia grow hope for her children?
