As the Church of the Good Shepherd Christian Aid representative, I have for many years been passionate about supporting the work Christian Aid does in making a difference to the lives of so many.
Each Christian Aid Week our Church Fellowship and local community have raised an average of £2000 to support their work . The way Christian aid work so effectively with partners in the countries they are supporting is inspiring. The money has been raised by our outstanding volunteers who have delivered the legendary red envelopes across Shoreham Beach. This e envelope is also directly linked to The Church of the Good Shepherd fundraising page so if you are tech savvy and wish to donate on line please do so and please leave a comment. The amount we raise each year is also supplemented by our community fundraising events. This year we will, once again, be raising money to fight poverty and injustice by hosting The Big Brekkie Event on Saturday the 10th May. From 09.30 -12.00 we will be serving breakfast baps, both meat and vegetarian, croissants/toast and jam with hot and cold drinks.( We hope to offer a vegan option this year ) For tickets for the Big Brekkie - £10 pp £5 for 11 and under contact jillcharlish@hotmail.com or tfjwal@hotmail.com Please do join us at this popular community event.
This year , at The Church of the Good Shepherd we will also be holding a fundraising concert in the Church on Friday 16 th May, featuring The Wellington Wailers and Lancing Brass. please contact Jill on the email above to find out more !
CoGS will always welcome help with these events and particularly the delivery of envelopes to Shoreham Beach residents ( no need for collection ) Please contact Jill or Chris (chris@wolston.me.uk)
Below are more details of the focus of this year's Christian aid Week
In Guatemala, the climate crisis is destroying crops and causing hunger for Indigenous communities. But with training, farmers like Aurelia are fighting back.
Aurelia has faced extreme heatwaves that have killed her crops, but through Christian Aid’s partner, Congcoop, she’s learning to grow resilient crops, make fertiliser and conserve water. She’s sharing this knowledge with others, helping her community build a sustainable future.
This Christian Aid Week, please give to support farmers in the fight against hunger and the climate crisis.
