Welcome to the Dean church on-line giving page for Christian Aid week, in which thousands of churches, irrespective of traditions, stand together to speak out for change.

Life may be considered to remain tough in the UK, to the extent that we sometimes forget how much tougher life is elsewhere in the world for a variety of reasons. Christian Aid’s long list of current emergency appeals emphasise this, being currently focused on:

• Cyclone Freddy in Malawi;
• the Turkey & Syrian Earthquake;
• the Libyan floods;
• the Ukrainian Humanitarian;
• the Middle East crisis, centred on the humanitarian disaster still enfolding in Gaza.

Christian Aid exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty, to which end it has a general focus on helping poorer communities cope with the adverse effects of the climate crisis, with its unpredictable and extreme weather patterns, responsible for some of the above mentioned appeals.

This year’s Christian Aid Week appeal is again focused on helping communities, in a sustainable manner, to build up their resilience capacities to climate change and other shocks. A video of an example of what this means in practice for a community in Burundi, who were trained to form a village savings and loan association from which income generating activities can be funded, can be watched by searching for Christian Aid Week 2024 on YouTube (full version 3:37 minutes).
