My story
  • Poverty, war, discrimination and climate disasters occur worldwide. Christian Aid works throughout the world through local communities to alleviate human need solely thorough charitable donations.
  • In Africa it is strengthening peace-building in South Sudan, promoting resilient farming in Kenya and challenging inequality in Sierra Leone. It is working with women to increase their access to green and sustainable energy in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Malawi.
  • In the Middle East  Christian Aid is bringing water to Gaza through its partner PARC; defending people’s rights in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory; protecting women at risk of violence in Iraq and providing humanitarian assistance to refugees in Lebanon.
  • In Asia, programmes include promoting women's rights in Afghanistan, justice and peacebuilding in Myanmar and ensuring people can access the services they need in Bangladesh.
  • In Latin America and the Caribbean, it is promoting gender justice in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Guatemala; peace-building in Colombia, and and support marginalised communities to adapt their livelihoods to climate change in Honduras, Nicaragua and Haiti.

Poverty pushed Aline to the brink. She was abused, homeless and hungry. But Aline pushed back harder. With Christian Aid funded small business training, she achieved what had seemed impossible, a vital income for her and her children.

Fundraising this Christian Aid Week will ensure more people in Burundi get the skills and knowledge they need to push back against the inhumanity of poverty.
