Christian Aid trace their history back to 1945 when British Churches united to help with the post war refugee situation. They remain the international and development agency of the British Churches, helping those in poverty and need across the world, of all faiths and none. The focus country this year is Burundi, where malnourishment and poverty affect more than 70% of the population, putting them at the edge of survival.
Coming back from the edge isn't easy when food can be scarce, disease prevalent, and jobs hard to come by. If you have a home, chances are there's no electricity or running water, and it may not even survive the next storm.
Aline, pushed to the brink, was abused, homeless and hungry. But Aline pushed back. She found a lifeline through Christian Aid funded small business training and she set up as a grocery wholesaler. This meant Aline achieved what had seemed impossible, a vital income for her and her children.

The annual Christian Aid Week (CAW) cake, jam and chutney stall at the Community Fair on 11th May raised around £250, an excellent start..
Ken Pattison from Holy Trinity has cycled 140 miles, and more!, in Christian Aid Week for Christian Aid as part of "Seven days, so many ways". He can be sponsored by donating to Holy Trinity's virtual envelope as part of the church's Christian Aid Week appeal, or by using a traditional CAW envelope.
By Monday 3 June the virtual envelope had raised a great £1,356 (£1,695 with Gift Aid), and the envelope remains open for donations. Also £1048.59 has been banked from the Christian Aid cake stall at the Community Fair and from 40 envelopes received, giving a magnificent total so far of £2,404.59. This equals our total from last year with donations still coming in. Brilliant!
