My story

Once again I am trying to complete the challenge of walking 300k steps in the month of May to raise funds for Christian Aid.

At Christian Aid we work towards a better world. We raise money for emergency aid and long term development and campaign against injustice, including climate change. We imagine a future where prolonged drought no longer withers crops, where crops are not flattened by cyclones and washed away by floods.

This year the focus is on Burundi. Malnourishment and poverty affect more than 70% of the population, putting them at the edge of survival. Coming back from the edge isn't easy when food is scarce, disease prevalent, and jobs hard to come by. Even if you have a home, chances are there's no electricity or running water, and it may not survive the next storm.

Aline, pushed to the brink, was abused, homeless and hungry. But Aline pushed back! She found a lifeline through Christian Aid funded small business training and set up as a grocery wholesaler. This meant she achieved what had seemed impossible, a vital income for her and her children.  She is now chairperson of a Village Savings and Loan Association in order to help others.

You can help ensure more people in Burundi get the skills and knowledge they need to fulfil their hopes and ambitions.

Please donate and help someone push back against poverty this Christian Aid Week.  Please don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation. It increases your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you.

Thank you

David

How your money helps

Poverty pushed Aline to the brink. She was abused, homeless and hungry. But Aline pushed back harder. With Christian Aid funded small business training, she achieved what had seemed impossible, a vital income for her and her children.

Fundraising this Christian Aid Week will ensure more people in Burundi get the skills and knowledge they need to push back against the inhumanity of poverty.
