My story

This May, I’m taking on 70k in May to support families facing hunger.  This means I will be walking most days, in solidarity with millions of people who have to walk long distances to access water, get to school/work, or take their produce to market.  Many are women who have been left to fend for themselves and their children as their husband has died. 

In Nairobi, Fridah lives with her children in a small rented corrugated metal shelter with no running water,  She tries to grow food in a tiny space behind the shelters.  Some days she manages to feed her family and some days she does not.  Christian Aid partners with organisations like Beacon of Hope, who partner with people like Fridah, by providing her with training, tools and seeds.

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
