My story

This May, I’m taking on 70k in May to support Christian Aid's amazing work with vulnerable communities around the world. In Guatemala, where I left a piece of my heart in the 1990s, Christian Aid is still working with partner organisations to help children and young people find alternatives to the violence on the streets of their towns and cities. Caja Lúdica (https://cajaludica.org/) uses arts-based education to build young people's self-esteem, tolerance and interpersonal skills.

In Dagoretti, an informal settlement in Nairobi, Kenya, Christian Aid supports an urban farming project helping families to grow fresh and nutritious food for themselves, and providing a vital cash income.

I'll be thinking of children, young people and their parents in Kenya and Guatemala as I take on this challenge, stepping out to walk and cycle 70K. Will you join me?

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
